1. Training

The first step in the HIPAA Prime process is to take HIPAA training.

To learn more about the onboarding process or if you are a visual learner, please watch this video: HIPAA Prime Training Onboarding Video

You have received an email asking you to set up your account for https://app.totalhipaa.com/. Once you set up your account, you can set the training release and due date and enroll additional trainees.

Trainees are anyone who has access to Protected Health Information (PHI) as part of their day-to-day duties or even people who may only have occasional access to PHI. If you need more licenses, please reach out to us at sales@totalhipaa.com, and our team can help you out.

We offer two types of training:

Leader Training
  1. This is annual training for those in your company who will be in charge of creating HIPAA Policies and Procedures, and/or implementing and supervising the HIPAA Rule. This includes:
    1. Owners, Executives, Managers, Officers, IT Managers, and any additional people involved with implementing HIPAA in your company
  2. This training is about 2 hours in length, including the final exam.

Workforce Training

  1. This is annual training for staff who must follow the HIPAA guidelines but are not responsible for implementing a plan. This includes:
    1. Administrative Assistants, Receptionists, IT Staff, and others who may come in contact with PHI
  2. This training is about an hour and a half in length, including the final exam.

Every trainee will receive an email from no-reply@totalhipaa.com to take their training and will have 30 days from receiving their training link to complete their training.

It’s required that trainees complete this training annually as Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Civil Rights (OCR), and/or State Attorneys General will be asking for annual training records for employees if your organization has a breach!

Key things to know about the training:
  1. The training is broken into 4 modules Privacy, Security, Breach, and Penalties. At the end of each video, there will be a quiz. This quiz is strictly for learning purposes. If you do not pass the quiz, the system will identify which answers were incorrect, and you can retake the quiz to pass.
  2. You can stop and start the training at any time. It doesn’t have to be completed in one sitting.
  3. There is a final exam at the end of the training. The final exam must be taken in one sitting, and you must receive a 70% or higher score to receive your HIPAA training certificate for the year.
  4. You can enroll additional trainees or officers at any time by going into your company profile and clicking on the blue “Add New User” button.
